Inside Halliburton’s Data Van
In this video, Marlon McKoy from Halliburton shows us around their frac data van! A data van can be found on any site where hydraulic fracturing operations are being conducted. Data vans like this belong to the service company that has been hired to frac the well. Inside the data van, representatives and employees of both the contractor and operator are able to monitor the job being performed. Be sure to watch this video, as Marlon details in depth what each worker monitors and is responsible for inside the data van. Marlon also provides great information as to how the frac job is planned and executed. In case your pressed for time, below is a quick summary of who is inside the data van and what they’re monitoring:
- Treaters/Service Supervisors: These two individuals (employed by the frac contractor) will be monitoring pump rates, pump temperature, speed of additives being added, blender functions, concentrations, etc. They make sure that everything mechanical is running according to plan. They ensure that the fluid being sent downhole is as designed. Most of the mixing and pumping is controlled remotely (for safety reasons due to the high pressures), and these are the individuals who control that.
- Company Man: The company man is the individual who has been hired by the operator to oversee the job and to be the primary contact for the operating company. He helps to oversee the job, ensure that it goes smoothly and as planned, and he is also the one with the authority to make any design changes he sees fit.
- Engineer: This is an engineer employed by the frac contractor to help ensure that everything runs smoothly. They also are responsible for creating the service tickets and ensuring that they don’t run out of the materials used for the hydraulic fracturing process.
If you’re not very familiar with the difference between contractors and operators, we covered that in this video. Also, if you’d like to get a better understanding of the hydraulic fracturing operations, please check out our basic courses!
