Contractors vs. Operators
What’s the difference between a contractor and an operator in the oilfield? In today’s video, we will be discussing the main differences and functionalities of operators and contractors. Be sure to check out the video to learn about these key differences and functionalities, but for those pressed for time, below is a quick summary!
As a contractor, the primary goal and mission will be to secure a job from the operator. Contractors will have a particular specialty within the industry that can offer some sort of service to the operators. All different types of contractors work for operators to help achieve the goal of drilling, completing, and producing a well.
Operators have engineers and all of the staff necessary to design the well to be drilled and then they go to contractors to help with the project of drilling the well. Operators will have a simpler work-life balance and typically will work a 9-5 job Monday through Friday while contractors will work in shifts, and someone from the contracting company will have to be on location 24/7 to ensure the jobs is being completed accordingly to the operator’s designs and specifications.
